ABOUT THIS PRODUCT:
Oxbow lakes are easy to understand with our fun model!
Oxbow lakes (billabong in Australia) are important habitats and water sources. Their distinctive U-shape forms when two river meanders meet leaving an oxbow lake behind.
Our model shows how oxbow lakes form due to a combination of erosion and deposition. First, your students make their model of four different stages of oxbow formation from a meander out of the colorful parts of the template.
They then use their models to look at how and why an oxbow lake forms. The model shows meanders, oxbow lakes, billabongs, river neck and the role of flooding.
Takes about 20 minutes to make the model!
Origami Organelles are downloadable paper models that you print and make as many times as you like! When you purchase a model, you are licensed for unlimited use on a single site or campus.
