ABOUT THIS PRODUCT:

Teach trp attenuation clearly with our unique model!

The trp operon consists of 5 genes the bacteria E. coli need to make the amino acid tryptophan. These genes are only switched "on" when tryptophan is needed by the cell. This is controlled is two ways - by a Trp repressor protein and attenuation. The Trp repressor protein is covered by our Trp Operon model and in this model we show how attenuation works.

Attenuation only happens in prokaryotic cells as transcription and translation are linked. A short peptide is made that determines if translation is fast or slow and this is used to switch on or off the tryptophan biosynthesis genes.

Your students will make a model of the trp attenuator and use it to see how bacteria are able to control trptophan biosynthesis genes. The model covers the trp attenuator, RNA polymerase, Trp leader protein, tRNA and ribosomes.

Takes about 30 minutes!

Origami Organelles are downloadable paper models that you print and make as many times as you like! When you purchase a model, you are licensed for unlimited use on a single site or campus.
