Edvotek Visits the City of Brotherly Love
Edvotek recently had the opportunity to participate in the NSTA area conference in Philadelphia. Surprisingly, it was the first opportunity for many of our team members to visit this marvelous city, so we made sure to arrive early to explore. We were amazed by all of the history on display, contributing to Philadelphia’s designation as the sole World Heritage City in the United States, a privilege enjoyed by only 250 cities around the world.

Edvotek Road Trip - A Brief Tour of the West Coast!
A few weeks ago, Edvotek kicked off our Fall Conference Schedule by attending the yearly meeting for the California Science Teachers Association in Sacramento, California. Before the conference started, we had time to wander around the city and take in the sites. Our first stop was Old Sacramento, which is the oldest part of town. We had fun wandering the cobblestone streets and the historic buildings. In fact, we stopped at the B. F. Hastings Building, which served as the western terminal of the Pony Express. We also toured the historic California State Capitol.

Why is C. elegans So Popular in the Biology Laboratory?
For centuries, scientists have used model organisms from the three domains of life, bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes, to understand biological functions. For example, the bacterium Escherichia coli, which has been studied for more than 60 years, has provided important findings in the areas of biological engineering and industrial microbiology. On the other hand, eukaryotic domain organisms like the fly Drosophila melanogaster and the roundworm Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) have been widely used to study genetics and developmental biology.
