952 - Water Quality Testing II: PCR-based Testing as a Predictor for Water Pollution
Description
This PCR-based experiment can be used as a predictor of water pollution due to sewage contamination. Targeted bacterial DNA will be PCR amplified to detect contaminating bacteria early in the pollution cycle. Bacterial strains will be provided and dilutions will be made to determine the number of bacterial cells that are required to obtain a successful PCR result. PCR products will be analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis. As an extension to this experiment students will determine the quality of water bodies in their environment.
Shipped ambient. Some components require -20°C storage.
