Determining Quick Plant Genetics Using PCR
Cat. #336

In this experiment, students learn about genotype/phenotype relationships by performing PCR using DNA extracted from EDVOTEK Quick Plants. The glabra mutant lacks trichomes on its leaves, as compared to wild type plants. By amplifying a region that differs between glabra and wild type plants, students also observe variation at the DNA level.

Kit includes: instructions, QuickPlantª seeds, potting soil pellets and pots, PCR beads, microtubes, primers, DNA extraction buffer, plant homogenization pestles with tubes, agarose, electrophoresis buffer, DNA ladder and gel stain.

All you need: EdvoCycler™, electrophoresis tank, power supply, variable micropipet and tips, UV transilluminator, balance and microwave or hot plate.

  For 10 Lab Groups

Setup 30 minutes, PCR 2 hours or overnight, Electrophoresis 45 minutes
