In this experiment, students gain experience in non-isotopic DNA detection & the use of Southern Blot analysis in DNA fingerprinting for a hypothetical paternity test. Includes three modules: agarose gel electrophoresis, Southern Blot transfer, and non-isotopic detection of DNA.

Kit includes: instructions, predigested DNA samples, buffers, NBT/BCIP tablets, streptavidin-Alkaline Phosphatase, nylon membranes, filter paper and UltraSpec-Agarose™ powder.
All you need: electrophoresis tank & power supply, automatic micropipet with tips, balance, microwave oven or hot plate, waterbath, incubation oven, pipet pumps or bulbs, pipets, floating Racks for microtest tubes, lab glassware, plastic wrap, distilled or deionized water, NaCl, NaOH, Concentrated HCl and ice.
For 5 Lab Groups
Electrophoresis 45 minutes, Blotting overnight and Non-Isotopic 3-4 hours
